Student Privacy Comes First

Students use school- or teacher-issued identifiers and classroom access information. Because those identifiers and the educational information connected to them may still identify a student within a school, Lesson Mentor treats that information as protected student-linked data.
Information Lesson Mentor Handles
Depending on the features a school or teacher uses, Lesson Mentor may process:
- Teacher and school account information, including name, email address, teaching state, classes, schedules, and subscription records.
- School- or teacher-issued student identifiers, classroom membership, selected avatar, assessment responses, learning profiles, and assessment history.
- Class-level instructional supports, including selected IEP accommodations. Teachers should not enter diagnoses, medical details, or full IEP documents.
- Lesson plans, teacher prompts, uploaded instructional materials, generated documents, and related usage records.
How Information Is Used
Student-linked information is used to provide teacher-authorized classroom functions, including assessments, class profiles, differentiated lesson recommendations, and generated instructional materials. Lesson Mentor does not sell student-linked information or use it for targeted advertising.
Schools And Authorized Educators
Schools and educators control which students participate and what information is entered. A school using Lesson Mentor with education records is responsible for approving the service under its applicable policies and for providing any notices or authorizations required by law. Access to student-linked information is limited to authorized teacher, school, and system roles.
Retention And Deletion
Lesson uploads and generated documents are available for 15 days. Student-linked school-year data is scheduled for deletion each August 1 and may be deleted earlier through the protected school-year reset. This data-minimization schedule is a Lesson Mentor privacy safeguard, not a claim that FERPA requires every school to use August 1. A school may need a different schedule because of state law, district policy, an active records request, or a legal hold.
Service Providers
Lesson Mentor uses authorized infrastructure and processing providers to host the application, secure accounts, store data, process documents, and generate requested materials. Providers may access information only as needed to deliver those services and are expected to protect it from unauthorized use or disclosure.
FERPA
Lesson Mentor is designed to support privacy-conscious school use. FERPA compliance depends on the school, Lesson Mentor, the approved use, and the controls governing education records. Lesson Mentor does not rely on the absence of student names to treat student-linked educational information as anonymous.
